Commemorating 3 Years Since Vitalik Buterin's Monumental 410 Trillion SHIB Burn
The Shiba Inu SHIBUSD community marks a significant milestone as they celebrate the third anniversary of Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin's groundbreaking decision to burn 410 trillion SHIB tokens.
In May 2021, Buterin's action became a pivotal moment in the cryptocurrency's narrative, drastically reducing its total supply from an initial one quadrillion.
During this event, Buterin made headlines by burning 410 trillion SHIB tokens, valued around $6.7 billion at the time. These tokens constituted a donation to Buterin by the Shiba Inu project, which had allocated him 50% of the total SHIB supply.
Rather than retaining or liquidating the tokens, Buterin opted to permanently remove them from circulation by transferring them to a dead wallet, a process known as burning. This amounted to 90% of the SHIB tokens he received from Shiba Inu's founder, Ryoshi.
But Buterin's actions didn't end with the burn. The remaining 10% of SHIB tokens were donated for charitable causes, showcasing a philanthropic application of cryptocurrency that garnered global acclaim.
As the third anniversary approaches, the Shiba Inu community continues to reflect on the significance of Buterin's decision. The burn remains a watershed moment in the history of Shiba Inu.
Acknowledging this milestone, the official Shiba Inu X Twitter account recently highlighted Buterin's historic burn: "Three years ago, Ryoshi burned SHIB to Vitalik Buterin, a move that engraved the Shibarmy in history. Now, our partners K9finance pay homage with a 410 million KNINE burn on May 31st. The legacy of burns continues."
The impact of the 410 trillion SHIB burn reverberates through the Shiba Inu project and the wider cryptocurrency landscape. In honor of the Ethereum co-founder, Shiba Inu's partner, K9 Finance DAO, will burn 410 million KNINE on May 31st.
