Metaplanet, a bitcoin hodler, will join the MSCI Japan Index and raise $26 million to purchase more bitcoin.
According to Simon Gerovich, CEO of Morgan Stanley Capital International (MSCI) Japan, the Japanese bitcoin BTCUSD buyer Metaplanet (3350) will be included in the MSCI Japan index by the end of February 28.
Mid-to-large-cap Japanese stocks are tracked by the MSCI index and are a major benchmark for institutional investors around the world. Metaplanet will gain from greater exposure to exchange-traded funds (ETFs) that track MSCI indices and global investment funds as a result of inclusion.
On X, Gerovich emphasised the benefits of inclusion, such as enhanced visibility, passive inflows, and growth validation. "This milestone further solidifies Metaplanet’s position as Asia’s leading Bitcoin Treasury Company and expands our reach in global markets" , Gerovich states.
In order to buy more bitcoin, Metaplanet also announced that they had raised $26 million (4 billion yen) for 0% of unsecured, unguaranteed ordinary bonds.
