According to Uniswap, Unichain's public mainnet is expected to launch in "early 2025."
Developed by Uniswap and based on the OP Stack, Unichain is a Layer 2 solution specifically focused on DeFi. It is expected to launch its public mainnet in early 2025, according to its developers.
Since October, the project has been running on Ethereum's Sepolia testnet, which has deployed over 4 million test contracts and handled over 50 million test transactions. Uniswap has claimed that the Sepolia testnet has maintained an uptime of over 99% across all important services.
Unichain Sepolia will undergo planned shut downs starting 6th of January 2025 in a bid to enable the permissionless FP. It will be integrated by the developers as soon as the Unichain main network is launched per the admirable permissionless fault proofs.
This feature makes the networks more secure since any one person can ascertain that a given blockchain is valid or not and dispute wrong charges made. Ethereum Layer 2 networks use fault proofs which are a way through which users can challenge other transactions that may be wrong or even malicious.
The public will be able to access the mainnet only after all operational and security upgrades and tests are completed. At this point, users can start using application on Unichain and start moving funds over to the network.
This phase follows the debut of the mainnet with the highly anticipated features such as the Flashblocks that are sure to slice block times drastically to 250 milliseconds, turning transactions virtually instant.
With the mainnet launch, Unichain will be part of the Superchain ecosystem by Optimism, and Uniswap Labs will be a leading contributor to the OP Stack. Uniswap, the largest spot decentralised exchange on Ethereum, processed over $1 billion in transactions within the last day. Unichain will decrease the risks of single-sequencer architectures by introducing the Unichain Validation Network: a decentralised network of node operators that validate independently the most recent blockchain state.
